Ciampa is prepared to capitalize on the opportunity he has been waiting for.
On the August 1 episode of WWE Raw, Ciampa defeated AJ Styles to earn a shot at the WWE United States Championship. Earlier in the show, both men won triple threat matches to advance to the singles bout, where the victor would receive a shot at the gold.
In a WWE Digital Exclusive after the match, Ciampa was asked about how he felt following the win. The former NXT Champion noted that he has previously stated that all he needed is an opportunity, and that’s what the United States Championship bout will be.
“Earned. Earned. Dolph Ziggler, Chad Gable, AJ Styles. I win. I win. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. All I need is an opportunity, and my opportunity comes next week,” he said.
Ciampa was also asked about Lashley’s comments; on Raw, the champion stated that he could beat anyone at any time. The challenger warned that he’s not just “anyone”, and Lashley should enjoy his final week with the title.
“’Anywhere, any time, anyone’, that’s what Bobby said. I heard what Bobby said. The problem is, Bobby Lashley, I am not anyone. I am the greatest sports entertainer of all time. I am The Blackheart and the fact of the matter is, nobody makes a title more prestigious than the man you are looking at before you. Bobby Lashley, enjoy your last week because as of next Monday, you are looking at your new United States Champion,” Ciampa said.
