Yair Rodriguez Beats Korean Zombie With All-Time Classic KO, Germaine De Randamie, Cowboy Cerrone Win At UFC Denver
UFC celebrated its 25th Anniversary in Denver on Saturday for a Fight Night card, and saw five top-15 fighters on the marquee.
The show was headlined by #10 featherweight “Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung taking on #15 Yair Rodriguez, who replaced the legendary Frankie Edgar on the event. The two satisfied the crowd with an unbelievable classic that saw some amazing exchanges both on the feet and on the ground. With seconds left and Rodriguez’s back possibly against the wall, he threw an insane back elbow behind his own head to knock out Jung with one of the most impressive knockouts in the history of the UFC.’
Mike Perry isn’t a top 15 UFC fighter, but was favored in his bout with #12 Welterweight Donald Cerrone. The two had drawn many comparisons since Perry’s run started last year, and locked horns Saturday night. Cerrone kept Perry on the outside looking in as it pertains to the top 15 with a first round armbar submission win. If Cerrone is to be believed, his future is a return to the 155 pound division that he called home for years.
Former UFC Featherweight Champion #5 Germaine de Randamie returned from her nearly two-year absence to take on #4 Raquel Pennington on the show. The bout will never be accused of being the most exciting fight on the show, but the former champion was able to earn a unanimous decision victory after Pennington missed weight the day prior.
