Will Seth Rollins Be CM Punk’s WrestleMania Feud?
It finally happened. The world stood still. Hell froze over. CM Punk returned to WWE.
After over a decade away from the biggest professional wrestling company on the planet, the Second City Saint broke the internet as he returned home – his words, not ours – at the recent Survivor Series premium live event. And he did so in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. The fanfare he received from the crowd in attendance will probably go down as some of the biggest of all time, but not everyone at All State Arena was happy to see his return.
With his first promo on Monday Night Raw in a decade not really indicating which direction he will be going in throughout his first few months back on the main roster, we decided to brainstorm what his first feud may well be. Here are two potential feuds for CM Punk following his return to WWE.
Seth Rollins
Now that the curtain has come down on Survivor Series, attention turns to January 2024 and specifically, the 30-man Royal Rumble match taking place on January 27th at Tropicana Field in Florida. The match has skyrocketed in popularity over the last decade, even catching the attention of US and Canada sports betting fans. CM Punk will be listed among the favourites for victory. But unlike the other hot frontrunner in the match – namely last year’s victor Cody Rhodes – it’s unlikely that the returning Voice of the Voiceless will gun for reigning and defending Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
There is a story to be told with the leader of the Bloodline, of that there is no doubt, but there is a much bigger story to be told with reigning World Heavyweight Champion and Reigns’ former Shield brethren, Seth Rollins.
Laced With Realism
Following Punk’s departure from the Big W back in January 2014, there was one man who was very vociferous in his criticism of the man who ruled as WWE Champion for 434 days. That man was the aforementioned Rollins. The Visionary stated upon Punk becoming a presenter for WWE on Fox he would like to “fight” him. He has also mentioned numerous times in recent weeks and months his disdain for Punk, and he has done so on very public platforms.
If Rollins’ recent high-profile feuds are anything to go by, that dose of realism could suggest that a program between the two is just around the corner. His three-part extravaganza with the aforementioned Rhodes that ran through the course of 2022 was laced with plenty of real-life drama, with both men confirming on numerous occasions that neither of them has any time for the other, but they can still compete to a high level professionally. Rollins’ most recent
WrestleMania feud with Logan Paul began courtesy of the current World Heavyweight Champion criticizing the Maverick on the Pat McAfee Show. Rollins was caught on numerous fan-taken videos absolutely enraged with Punk’s return, and his public criticism of his long-time rival may very well indicate that a program between the two is imminent. But will the Second City Saint win the Rumble and call out Rollins on the Grandest Stage of Them All? Only time will tell.
