Weili Zhang Doesn’t Think Joanna Jedrzejczyk Is The Same Fighter She Used To Be
UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Weili Zhang watched Jedrzejczyk’s latest win, but the champion believes that Jedrzejczyk isn’t the same fighter that she used to be.
“Joanna – I don’t think she’s the fighter she used to be,” Weili said to TMZ Sports (via Farah Hannoun of MMA Junkie). “She’s nothing conditional to what she used to be. I’m not very interested.”
Jedrzejczyk has won just two of her last five under the UFC banner, but is ranked #4 in the weight class.
Zhang also thinks that the former women’s strawweight champion needs her more than the current champ needs the former title holder.
“Definitely, she needs me more than I need her, and she’s struggling in the division to fight me. But I don’t know if I will give her the chance,” Weili said. “I want to fight the best. I think maybe Rose (Namajunas) is also a good choice.”
The current women’s strawweight champion has also expressed an interested in moving up a weight class to challenge UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko, which could delay Jedrzejczyk’s long desired title shot.
