War Machine Turns Down Plea Deals; Heading To Trial Next Month
UFC and Bellator MMA veteran War Machine, also known by his former name of John Koppenhaver, has reportedly turned down two plea deals by the Clark County Court District (Nevada) and his trial for allegedly assaulting former girlfriend Christy Mack, plus current boyfriend Corey Thomas in August 2014. The news was first reported by KSNV.
War Machine, with the plea deals turned down, will be going to court to defend himself against more than 30 charges during an alleged brutal assault he committed against Mack and Thomas. The trial is expected to begin on February 27.
According to medical reports, Mack suffered such injuries as a punctured lung and several broken bones as well. One of the charges that Machine faces is attempted murder, if he’s convicted of that charge, he could be facing a life sentence.
Machine has been in a Nevada prison since August of 2014, there was no bail set due to the crimes he has allegedly committed.
Machine earned a record of 14-5-0 as a professional MMA fighter, earning notable victories over Roger Huerta and Jared Rollins, he last competed at Bellator 104 in October 2013, where he was submitted by Ron Keslar.
