Volkan Oezdemir Waiting For Contract To Fight Daniel Cormier
UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier has stated in the past that Volkan Oezdemir should get the next shot at his title.
Oezdemir is ready to accept that title shot and the only thing the fighter is waiting for is a contract.
“Nothing is confirmed right now, but everything is in talks,” Oezdemir said at a UFC 217 media event. “I’m just waiting on a contract to sign, and I’m on.”
Oezdemir would be getting his first title fight in the UFC, having previously defeated Ovince St. Preux, Misha Cirkunov and Jimi Manuwa in his UFC tenure.
Cormier is also coming off of a bit of controversy surrounding his last fight against Jon Jones at UFC 214, but Oezdemir says that DC is the real champion.
“He is the champ,” Oezdemir said. “I have no doubt about that. He beats everyone at heavyweight and light heavyweight. He’s the champ. What happened with Jones is controversial, so now, everything’s different. But Cormier’s one of the toughest guys in the 205-pound division and pound-for-pound also. It’s amazing for me to be fighting him.”
While both champion and challenger seem ready for their title encounter, the UFC has yet to announce a date for the potential bout.
