Volkan Oezdemir Calls 2018 A “Really Annoying Year”

Volkan Oezdemir is back in action this weekend at UFC Fight Night London, facing Dominick Reyes in a light heavyweight division match up.

The fighter is looking to start off 2019 on the right foot, especially after suffering through a really annoying year in 2018.

“Definitely, 2017 was a better year for me,” Oezdemir told MMA Junkie. “It was a pain in the ass for me to train. It (2018) was a really annoying year.”

Oezdemir suffered losses to Daniel Cormier and Anthony Smith last year, plus dealt with a staph infection and a knee surgery.

While Oezdemir is looking to have a fantastic 2019, it may be happening with the old Oezdemir stepping into the Octagon.

“It’s good because I can feel the old Volkan going on,” Oezdemir said. “Aside from feeling this old energy and the thing that made me, also, I had to make some changes in my training because I don’t have all the bodies I have in Florida, all the high-level people, the heavyweights. I actually had to really focus a lot on my conditioning and techniques, so definitely I improved a lot.”

UFC Fight Night London takes place on Saturday, March 16 from the 02 Arena in London, England with Darren Till and Jorge Masvidal headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
