Vladimir Putin Meets With Khabib Nurmagomedov After UFC 229 Win

UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor via fourth round submission in the main event of UFC 229.

The champion is already back in his home country of Russia, where Nurmagomedov got a face to face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is actually the second time Khabib got a congratulations from Putin, who had previously called the fighter after UFC 229.

Nurmagomedov did get a promise from Putin that he would speak with the champions father (who was also present at the meeting) about being lenient in the punishment for Nurmagomedov inciting a post-fight brawl at UFC 229.

“I will ask your father not to punish you too strictly, because you achieved the main task, worthily and convincingly,” Putin said according to RT.com.

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov is Khabib’s father and papa Nurmagomedov stated that the punishment Khabib would get from him would be worse than the fighter would get anywhere else.

Khabib has only seen his $2 million fight purse withheld by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) and could be facing further punishments in the coming weeks. McGregor and Khabib were also handed down ten day suspensions from the NSAC, which would expire in the next week.
