Valentina Shevchenko Says Bout With Amanda Nunes Close To Being Scheduled
Valentina Shevchenko is next in line for a shot at the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title held by Amanda Nunes.
The top contender for the title says that everything is close to being signed.
“I think soon we’ll have something, but my manager and their managers are speaking to the UFC,” she told MMA Junkie Radio. “Soon we’ll have a date.”
Nunes did defeat Valentino by unanimous decision the first time they met back at UFC 196.
Shevchenko also feels that things would’ve been set by now if the champion would just make up her mind on a date.
“When she declined the fight in April, she was (telling) the UFC she’d be out for some time, and she won’t be back until July,” Shevchenko said. “Of course, I was planning my schedule to be busy before July. But then she changed her mind, and now we are speaking about the date.”
Nunes last competed and defended her title by defeating former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey at UFC 207 last year. Shevchenko last competed in the main event of UFC On Fox 23 earlier this year, where she defeated Juliana Pena by second round submission with an arm bar.
