Valentina Shevchenko Challenges Paige VanZant

There is still no UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion in the promotion yet, but that hasn’t stopped fighters from positioning themselves as a contender in the newly minted division.

Two of those fighters looking to become contenders in the division are Valentina Shevchenko and Paige VanZant. Recently, it was Shevchenko who took to Twitter to challenge PVZ to a fight:

PVZ recently caused a little bit of controversy when she went to Twitter to announce she would be getting the first title shot at whomever wins the UFC Ultimate Fighter 26 and the UFC Women’s Flyweight Title.

However, despite those claims, the UFC quickly shot that statement down and said there is no other top contender for the title at the moment.

Shevchenko recently competed in the main event of UFC 215, suffering a close decision loss to UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes.

VanZant hasn’t been seen in the cage since being submitted by Michelle Waterson in the main event of UFC On Fox 22. PVZ was supposed to make her women’s flyweight division debut earlier this year at UFC 216 against Jessica Eye, but she pulled out of the fight due to injury.

The female strawweight competitor has yet to respond to the challenge issued by Shevchenko.
