UFC Veteran Josh Koscheck Announces Retirement

After fourteen-plus years in MMA competition, UFC and Bellator MMA veteran Josh Koscheck has called it a career.

Koscheck made the announcement while appearing on the latest edition of The Luke Thomas Show and Thomas himself made an announcement via Twitter.

One major reason that Koscheck has decided to hang up the gloves in that he couldn’t hang with the younger competitors.

“You never know, I might come back some day,” Koscheck said on The Luke Thomas Show. “The biggest thing about my mixed martial arts career, at the ending it didn’t go the way I wanted. It’s almost like you kind of just lose it, and it pains me to say that. It really, truly pains me as a fighter because I have a big ego – everybody that steps inside that cage has a big ego – but I truly didn’t have it. I couldn’t go out there and compete with these young guys. I felt great in the gym. I was in great shape. I don’t think I was ever in better shape than I was at 38, 39, and 40, but I just didn’t have it.”

During his fourteen plus years in MMA, a now retired Koscheck defeated top fighters like Luke Cummo, Pete Spratt, Diego Sanchez, Chris Lytle, Frank Trigg, Anthony Johnson, Paul Daley, Matt Hughes and Mike Pierce. Koscheck’s last professional MMA bout came at Bellator 172 in February 2017, where he suffered a first round TKO loss to Mauricio Alonso.
