UFC Veteran Charged With Assault

Daniel Lee Berrera, who was a cast member on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 6, has been charges with assaulting a high school student, this is according to a report filed by the Hawaii Tribune-Herald.

Berrera has been officially charged with misdemeanor assault of a female wrestler at Pahoa High School. The underage female wrestler’s name hasn’t been released due to her status as a minor.

Glenn Shiigi, a Deputy Prosecutor, states that Berrera apparently walked into the Pahoa High School wrestling practice last Friday (2/3/17), uninvited, then struck the female wrestler three times in the back of her head with an open palm. The student would go onto tell police and that would then lead to the arrest of Berrera a short time later.

Berrera appeared in court this past Monday (2/6/17) and according to a request made by Deputy Public Defender Austin Hsu, Berrera will be undergoing a mental evaluation. Berrera has two priors convictions on his record already, one for disorderly conduct and one for harassment.

Berrera allegedly told the judge on Monday that he was invited to the school to help with wrestling practice, but nothing supports his claims at this moment.

Things took a turn for the worse as Berrera was being led out of the court room, as he shouted the following to the gallery:

“I’m sorry, Mom, they’re not releasing me. I was just helping the wrestling. These kids need to wake up. I wanted them to wake up because Hawaiians need to toughen up. OK? I was at wrestling practice. I don’t understand how this is assault. You play football? Anybody? Am I f***ing crazy here? There’s murderers on the street! My sister got murdered two weeks ago in Pahoa!”

Berrera’s bail has been set at $2,000 and the proposed mental evaluation will be taking place on Tuesday, February 28.

Berrera earned a record of 3-1-0 as a professional MMA fighter, including a loss to Ben Saunders at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 6 Finale, he hasn’t competed since a victory over Brett Malphrus at a November 2010 Lords Of The Cage event.
