UFC Vegas 10: Kyle Nelson Details Visa Issues That Scrapped His Last Fight

Kyle Nelson is relieved to finally step foot in the Octagon at UFC Vegas 10 after his last fight was canceled over visa issues.

Nelson (13-3) will return to the cage after a nearly one-year layoff. “The Monster” faces Billy Quarantillo on Saturday but it was not his first scheduled fight of 2020. Nelson was previously scheduled to meet Sean Woodson in June but that bout was scrapped after UFC failed to come through with the necessary travel documents.

“They were handling it all. I think because we took the fight on two weeks’ notice and just the way the visa process works in the United States, it was a little slowed down because of COVID and they weren’t able to get it done in time,” Nelson told Fightful. “I’ve got my paperwork and stuff already so everything is good to go.”

“I’m hoping it will be easier and I will be able to jump on a couple more fights, even some short notice ones,” he continued. “I’m going to look into getting a permanent visa or a five-year visa so we don’t have to go through this process every time.”

Nelson has evaluated Quarantillo’s recent unanimous decision win over Spike Carlyle and the Canadian is not particularly impressed.

“Even with the ‘Alpha Ginger’ being extremely gassed in the third round, Billy was trying all sorts of submissions and just couldn’t finish them even though Carlyle was barely, barely able to breathe,” Nelson explained. “I just don’t see Billy being a great finisher.”

UFC Vegas 10 takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, September 12. The card is headlined by Michelle Waterson vs. Angela Hill and airs on ESPN+. Keep up with Fightful for all your fight night coverage.
