UFC Rep Says TUF 26 Was An Idea That Got Out Too Early, Dana White Agrees
Fightful reported a few days back that the upcoming season of the UFC Ultimate Fighter would be used to crown the first ever UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion.
UFC Public Relations Official Matt Radmanovich wants MMA fans to cool off on the notion of what could be coming to TUF 26, because the concept is just an idea right now.
“It’s an idea that we’ve been tossing back and forth and were conceptualizing,” Radmanovich said at a UFC 211 conference call. “Frankly, it just came out a little early. We haven’t confirmed it. We have no firm ideas on it. We’re just kind of waiting and seeing. It was an idea that was put to paper, but just got out too early.”
Currently, the UFC has three women’s division and champions in strawweight (Joanna Jedrzejczyk), Bantamweight (Amanda Nunes) and featherweight (Germaine De Randamie).
Radmanovich isn’t the only UFC official to speak out on TUF 26, that’s because UFC President Dana White says the press release about the new season was put out prematurely, this is according to Yahoo Sports:
The UFC is considering featuring women’s flyweights on Season 26, which will begin filming in July and will be broadcast in September. When Yahoo Sports contacted UFC president Dana White for comment on the decision, he said the news release announcing the upcoming season was sent in error and that it hadn’t been finalized.
TUF 26 is expected to start filming this July and it will air sometime in the winter of 2017.
