UFC Rankings Analysis: Sergio Pettis Sees Huge Jump

Despite the heavy focus on the WWE Royal Rumble this weekend, the UFC has a nice fight card ahead and some big scramblings in their official rankings.

Sergio Pettis saw a huge leap, all the way up to #9 in the 125-pound rankings. His victory over John Moraga (now down 5 spots to #13), pushed him up 6 spots, while also moving Dustin Ortiz up one to #8.

The announcement that TJ Dillashaw would challenge Cody Garbrandt for the Bantamweight title apparently had ramifications on his P4P ranking, as he increased two ranking positions to number 12.

Yair Rodriguez mollywhopped MMA legend BJ Penn last week, and was rewarded with the #8 spot in the featherweight ranks (up two spots).

The biggest shakeup was Aleksei Oleinik popping up at #14 in the rankings, while Francis Ngannou, Alexander Volkov, Tim Johnson and Daniel Omielanczuk moves up a position. Oleinik's appearance was a result of his UFC Fight Night 103 win, while the others were beneficiaries of Josh Barnett being removed from the rankings following a potential USADA violation.
