Play-by-Play

(#2) Ciryl Gane vs. (#7) Serghei Spivac

Round One – Gane opens the main event with a front kick to the body. Gane pops the jab, Spivac lands a right hook, and Gane lands a low kick. Gane lands a pair of lead leg kicks, Spivac looks for the clinch but Gane avoids and lands a jab on the way out. Gane lands a front kick to the body, then another low kick, and peppers Spivac with the jab. Spivac dives down for a takedown and has a leg but Gane sprawls and pops back up to his feet. Gane lands a calf kick, Spivac lands a jab, and Gane lands a straight left hand. Gane lands a 1-2, rips a right hook to the body, and lands another lead leg kick. Gane snaps Spivac’s head back with a straight left hand, Spivac jabs, and Gane returns the favor with a jab of his own. Spivac clinches but Gane defends nicely and shoves his opponent back. Gane lands a low kick, then a 1-2 to the body before popping the jab back up top. Gane finds a home for another jab, then a 1-2 to the body, and the horn sounds to end the opening frame. 

Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Gane.

Round Two – Gane lands a front kick to the body to begin round number two. Gane lands a low kick, then a jab back up top, and Spivac lands a jab of his own. Gane wallops Spivac with a right hook, then a 1-2, Spivac retreats to the fence, and Gane is really teeing off now as the French fans in attendance are in a frenzy. Gane lands a 1-2, then some short shots on the inside, referee Marc Goddard warns Spivac to defend himself better or fight back, Gane is relentless with the pressure, and this one is waved off! Ciryl Gane is back!

(#3) Manon Fiorot vs. (#2SW) Rose Namajunas

Round One – Fiorot lands a 1-2 to open the action. Namajunas lands a right hook, followed by a leg kick. Fiorot lands a right hook, then pops the jab, and lands a low kick. Fiorot lands a left hook, Namajunas finds a home for a lead leg kick, Fiorot jabs, and Namajunas plants another kick onto Fiorot’s lead leg. Fiorot lands a right hook, Namajunas dives down for a takedown but Fiorot defends well, and shoves the former champion back. Fiorot pops the jab and the horn sounds to end the opening frame.

Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Fiorot.

Round Two – Fiorot lands a 1-2, Namajunas trips to the mat, and Fiorot scrambles to clinch Namajunas against the fence. Namajunas gets herself off the fence and circles back to the center of the octagon. Namajunas wallops Fiorot with a left hook, Fiorot trips down to the mat, scrambles back to her feet, Namajunas clinches, but Fiorot breaks off the fence and gets back to the middle of the cage. Fiorot has a massive gash on the right side of her head and it’s just pouring blood. The referee stops the fight to make sure Fiorot is OK, she says yes, and the fight is back on. It was shown on the broadcast that the gash is due to a head clash from both competitors on a grappling exchange. Fiorot lands a right hook, then a leg kick, and another right hook. Namajunas lands a left hook and the horn sounds that’ll send this one to the third and final round.

Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Fiorot. 20-18 to Fiorot after two rounds.

Round Three – Namajunas looks for a quick takedown but Fiorot shoves the former champion back. Fiorot pops the jab, Namajunas dives down for a takedown, Fiorot drops to a knee but side steps Namajunas, and remains on the feet. Namajunas pops the jab, Fiorot lands a right hook, and Namajunas comes back with a 1-2. Namajunas lands a low kick, Fiorot lands a 1-2, and Namajunas finds a home for another lead leg kick. Namajunas clinches but quickly backs off as the horn sounds, and this one is headed to the judge’s scorecards.

Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Namajunas. 29-28 to Fiorot overall.

Benoit Saint-Denis vs. Thiago Moises

Round One – Moises opens up with a front kick to the body. Saint-Denis lands a right hook and goes for a body kick of his own but it’s below the belt and Moises is given a moment to recover. The fight is back on and Saint-Denis hits Moises below the belt once again with a front kick and the Brazilian contender is given another moment to recover. The fight is resumed, Saint-Denis wallops Moises with a 1-2, then a low kick, and a right hook. Saint-Denis scoops and dumps Moises on the mat and looks for the back. Moises defends well and gets this one back on the feet. Saint-Denis starts unloading on Moises, both to the head and the body, Moises cracks Saint-Denis with a right hook, and Saint-Denis secures another takedown. Saint-Denis lands some shots with back control, Moises spins back down to his back, Saint-Denis stands up, and starts hammering Moises with shots from the top. Saint-Denis drops back down to the mat and has top control with about a minute to work. Moises is a bloodied up mess from one of these shots but he locks in a knee bar out of nowhere, but Saint-Denis scrambles back to his feet. Saint-Denis starts unloading on Moises with shot after shot, Moises is bleeding all over the place, and the horn sounds to end a wild opening frame.

Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Saint-Denis.

Round Two – Moises dives down for a takedown and gets it but Saint-Denis pops right back up and circles back to the center of the octagon. Saint-Denis trips Moises down to the mat and quickly secures back control. Saint-Denis is pouring on the punches, the referee warns Moises that he needs to do something, so he gets to a knee, Saint-Denis is relentless in his offense, the referee warns Moises once more, Saint-Denis lands shot after shot, and this one is waved off! Benoit Saint-Denis with an emphatic win in front of his home crowd!

Result: Benoit Saint-Denis def. Thiago Moises via TKO (punches) (4:44, R2)

(#9) Volkan Oezdemir vs. Bogdan Guskov

Round One – Oezdemir opens the action with a low kick. Oezdemir cracks Guskov with a right hook but Guskov lands a left hook and both competitors are swinging here early. Oezdemir lands another low kick, then a yet another, and one more for good measure. Guskov wallops Oezdemir with a right hook, Oezdemir lands one of his own, and Guskov is down! Oezdemir secures the back, locks in the choke, and Guskov has no choice but to tap out! Volkan Oezdemir is back!

Result: (#9) Volkan Oezdemir def. Bogdan Guskov via submission (rear-naked choke) (3:46, R1)

William Gomis vs. Yanis Ghemmouri

Round One – Ghemmouri opens the action with a low kick. Gomis returns the favor, before planting a second onto Ghemmouri’s lead leg. Ghemmouri lands another lead leg kick, as does Gomis but Ghemmouri lands yet another low kick. Gomis throws a body kick but it’s below the belt and Ghemmouri is given a moment to collect himself. The fight is resumed, Gomis lands a 1-2 and the horn sounds to end a somewhat uneventful opening frame.

Fightful scores this round 10-9 to Gomis.

Round Two – Gomis lands a 1-2 to begin round number two. Ghemmouri dives down for a takedown, Gomis defends well, and looks for a guillotine! Ghemmouri is able to wiggle out of the choke but continues to have Gomis clinched against the fence. Gomis shoves Ghemmouri back and circled back to the center of the octagon, where he’s met by another low kick by Ghemmouri at the horn and this one is headed to the third and final round.

Fightful scores this one 10-9 to Gomis. 20-18 to Gomis after two rounds.

Round 3 – Ghemmouri clinches to open the final frame. Gomis breaks loose and lands a low kick on Ghemmouri’s lead leg. Ghemmouri clinched once again but Gomis quickly scoots out of danger and lands a body kick. The referee waves off the fight but Ghemmouri is arguing that it’s a low blow but that’s all for this one…Gomis wins by a very controversial TKO.

Result: William Gomis def. Yanis Ghemmouri via TKO (body kick) (2:20, R3)

Morgan Charriere vs. Manolo Zecchini

Round One – Zecchini opens up with a right hook that lands. Zecchini lands a 1-2, then yet another right hook. Charriere plants a kick on Zecchini’s lead leg before landing a jab. Charriere continues to work the jab, then lands a heavy body kick, then another, Zecchini falls the the mat, and this one is over! What a debut for Morgan Charriere!
