Play-by-Play

(#4) Curtis Blaydes vs. (#6) Tom Aspinall

Round One – Tuivasa with a low kick to start. Blaydes cracks Aspinall with a 1-2 and shoves Aspinall back and the Englishman is holding his knee. This one is over. Horrible luck for Tom Aspinall. The UFC has now had two straight weeks with a main event finished due to an injury.

(#8) Jack Hermansson vs. Chris Curtis

Round One – Hermansson with a low kick to start. Hermansson whiffs on a Superman punch and Curtis cracks him with a 1-2. Hermansson lands a front kick then lands another leg kick. Hermansson lands another kick to Curtis’ lead leg then misses a side kick to the body. Hermansson misses another Superman attempt and Curtis lands a straight left as Hermansson goes back to the well and lands another lead leg kick. Hermansson lands a pair of leg kicks, then has a high kick blocked by Curtis. Hermansson continues to work the lead leg and lands yet another kick but Curtis lands a knee to the body as Hermansson grabs a leg and looks for the trip but Curtis holds his balance and shoves Hermansson to the side. Curtis lands a left uppercut to the body and Hermansson has another head kick blocked and the buzzer sounds to end the opening frame.

Round Two – Hermansson with a leg kick to start. Hermansson lands a straight left and Curtis rips a pair of left hooks to the body in response. Hermansson lands a front kick to the body, followed by another…and then a third. Hermansson lands another lead leg kick, Curtis lands a left hook to the body, then lands another body shot. Hermansson dives for a takedown but Curtis shoves him back and stays on his feet, where he lands another left hook to the body. Hermansson throws another head kick, this time, it lands, Curtis backs up to the fence, Hermansson rushes forward and hammers Curtis with some punches and elbows but Curtis escapes and circles back to the center of the octagon. Hermansson drills Curtis with a knee to the body, Curtis counters with a left hook to the body and Hermansson lands another kick to Curtis’ lead leg. Curtis lands a left hook then a jab but Hermansson plants another kick to Curtis’ lead leg and lands another front kick to the body. Hermansson jabs, Curtis rips a left hook to the body but the horn sounds and this one is headed to the third and final round.

Round Three – Curtis lands a left hook to the body to start and it appears as if he needs a finish to steal this victory from Hermansson. Curtis lands a left hook to the body, then another and Hermansson pops a pair of counter jabs. Hermansson goes for another body kick but this time, it’s below the belt and referee Marc Goddard calls for a halt in the action. Curtis only takes a moment to recover and this one is back underway. Curtis lands a pair of jabs then walks back to the center of the octagon and tells Hermansson to meet him back in the middle. Hermansson drills Curtis with a kick to the body, Curtis comes back with a 1-2, then another and Hermansson lands a left hook. Curtis rocks Hermansson with a left hook, Hermansson dives for a takedown, Curtis shoves him aside and lands another 1-2. Hermansson lands a knee to the body, then a side kick to the body and Curtis comes back with a left hook to the body. Curtis yells at Hermansson for hopping around the cage, Hermansson doesn’t seem to care and Curtis flips him off as the buzzer sounds to send this one to the judge’s scorecards.

Paddy Pimblett vs. Jordan Leavitt

Round One – Pimblett opens with a front kick to the body. Pimblett backs Leavitt up to the cage, Leavitt dives for the legs and trips Pimblett to the mat but Pimblett pops right back up. Leavitt clinches Pimblett against the fence and drops down for a takedown and scoops and slams Pimblett on the mat. Pimblett locks in a guillotine, Leavitt kicks himself off the cage, Pimblett readjusts the choke but Leavitt breaks loose. Pimblett scrambles and gets back to the feet but Leavitt stays latched on and has Pimblett clinched against the cage. Leavitt slams Pimblett to the mat once again but Pimblett pops right back up for the third time. Leavitt continues to not give Pimblett any separation and has Pimblett against the fence. Leavitt trips Pimblett, who gets back up but can’t break free of the clinch. Leavitt trips Pimblett to the mat yet again, Pimblett lands on Leavitt’s back but Leavitt grasps the leg, Pimblett flips over his head and ends up back on the feet but Leavitt refuses to let the clinch go. Pimblett finally creates some separation, Leavitt dives back in and trips Pimblett but Pimblett latches onto the neck, they both scramble, Pimblett ends up with Leavitt’s back, gets the body-lock and starts landing some ground and pound but the horn sounds to end the opening frame.

Round Two – Leavitt lands a left hook to start. Pimblett comes back with a straight right then a front kick to the body. Pimblett just misses a 1-2, Leavitt lands a straight right on Pimblett then dives in and gets the clinch. Leavitt drops to his knees to look for the takedown, but Pimblett lands a pair of elbows to force Leavitt back up. Pimblett latches onto Leavitt’s neck and has a standing head and arm choke locked in. Pimblett lands a knee to the body and uses it to get Leavitt’s back on the mat. Pimblett gets the body lock in and starts landing shots to the side of Leavitt’s head. Pimblett gets under the neck and sitches in the rear-naked choke and Leavitt has no choice but to tap! Paddy “The Baddy” does it again!

(#11) Nikita Krylov vs. Alexander Gustafsson

Round One – Krylov immediately rocks Gustafsson with an overhand right and Gustafsson is dropped to the mat. Krylov jumps down and lands some ground and pound, Gustafsson pops back up, Krylov shoves him against the fence and continues the barrage but Gustafsson hangs on and circles back to the center of the octagon. Krylov with a front kick to the body, Gustafsson catches the leg but Krylov wallops him with a looping right hand, Gustafsson lets go, Krylov blasts him with another right hook that sends Gustafsson to the canves for a second time and after a few follow up shots, referee, Marc Goddard waves this one off! What a performance from Nikita Krylov!

Result: (#11) Nikita Krylov def. Alexander Gustafsson via KO (punches) (1:07, R1)

Molly McCann vs. Hannah Goldy

Round One – McCann whiffs on an overhand right but Goldy ducks under and shoves McCann back. McCann lands a 1-2 then rips a right hook to the body. McCann lands a straight left, then a left hook to the body. Goldy ducks for a takedown but McCann shoves her aside. Goldy grabs McCann’s left leg and shoves her back to the fence but McCann holds her balance for the time being. Goldy tries for the trip but McCann continues to stay on her feet, Goldy kicks McCann’s leg out from under her but McCann somehow bounces her back off the fence to stay off the mat and shoves Goldy back to break the clinch. McCann with a low kick, Goldy grabs a leg but McCann hops on her left leg and kicks Goldy back to break the hold. Goldy clinches but McCann pushes her back and cracks her with a left hook. McCann cracks Goldy with a right hook, Goldy trips, McCann rushes over but Goldy latches on for an ankle pick, McCann breaks loose, Goldy get to her feet but McCann begins an onslaught and drills Goldy with a right hook, then lands a spinning back elbow that sends Goldy to the mat, McCann follows up with a ton of ground and pound and referee, Herb Dean waves this one off! Another highlight finish for “Meatball”!
