UFC Boise’s Zak Ottow talks Sage Northcutt matchup & Training at The MMA Lab
Zak Ottow is back in the Octagon at UFC Fight Night Boise, facing Team Alpha Male standout Sage Northcutt.
The welterweight fighter was surprised a bout against Northcutt was offered to him, especially since Northcutt was competing at lightweight as of late.
“Yeah I was, he’s been down at 155 for awhile. (I) didn’t even think it would be an option, but he decided to come up to 170 and I got the fight. So my manager called me and I was like ‘this is at 170…right? There’s no way I could make 155’ and he’s like ‘yeah, he’s coming up to 170.’ So yeah…here we go,” says Ottow in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Ottow has spent the majority of his run in the UFC competing at welterweight, earning a 3-2-0 record in the promotion thus far.
Even though Northcutt rides into the fight on a two bout winning streak, one thing Ottow plans on doing is finishing the prospect early in the contest.
“Definitely a finish….100%. I don’t know how its gonna happen, I don’t think he’s gonna allow it to be on the feet to long because as soon as I start hitting him with some power shots, he’s gonna start diving in for those long range takedowns. If we happen to get into some grappling exchanges, then its gonna be an early, early night for him,” says Ottow.
UFC Fight Night Boise takes place on Saturday, July 14 from the Century Bank Arena in Boise, Idaho with Junior Dos Santos and Blagoy Ivanov headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
