UFC Argentina’s Neil Magny Predicts A Late Second-Round Finish Over Santiago Ponzinibbio

Neil Magny is competing the in the main event of UFC Fight Night Buenos Aires, facing Santiago Ponzinibbio in a welterweight division clash.

The welterweight contender was supposed to fight Alex Oliveira at UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo before this opportunity came up, which is a situation Magny describes as a great opportunity.

“At the end of the day, it was just one of those opportunities where the UFC was going to a new market and they needed a main event. At the end of the day, Santiago Ponzinibbio is one of the only Argentinian fighters on the UFC roster and he’s ranked in the top ten. So it was a great opportunity for the UFC to put this fight together for the guys in Argentina, so they decided it would be better to pull from from the Oliveira card and had me fight Santiago instead,” says Magny in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.

Magny is actually undefeated in UFC main event fights, having defeated Kelvin Gastelum by split decision at UFC Fight Night 78.

Main event fights are able to go five rounds if need be, but Magny doesn’t think he’ll need all five rounds to get the job done on Saturday Night.

“I see this fight playing out really well, he;s gonna come out super explosive trying to put on a great show for the hometown crowd. I’m just gonna meet him right in the center of the Octagon and bring right back to him, I think this fights gonna be one of those fights that starts out super exciting. But at the end of the day, the longer the fight goes on, the better it is for me. I see myself getting that late second round finish or earning the third round finish,” says Magny.

UFC Fight Night Buenos Aires takes place on Saturday, November 17 from Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina with Santiago Ponzinibbio and Neil Magny headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox Sports 1.
