Jim Miller Loses Record-Setting Bout: UFC Vegas 23 Prelims Video Highlights

Jim Miller set the record for the most UFC fights in a losing effort in the featured prelims of UFC Vegas 23.

Take a look at that and all the other highlights from the prelims of the UFC’s Saturday morning offering.

Joe Solecki def. Jim Miller via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

In a fight that saw almost nothing but grappling, Joe Solecki turned away the UFC veteran Jim Miller. Solecki pulled guard in the first, and could never get anything going, but after that Miller was trapped on bottom, and Solecki ground out a victory. Despite the loss, Miller still sets the record for the most UFC fights, surpassing Donald Cerrone in that regard.

Mateusz Gamrot def. Scott Holtzman via KO (1:22 Rd.2)

Former KSW champion Mateusz Gamrot bounced back after his debut UFC loss, by knocking out UFC veteran Scott Holtzman with a vicious 1-2, and follow up ground and pound. 

John Makdessi def. Ignacio Bahamondes via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 30-27)

Despite coming into the fight six inches shorter than his opponent, Canadian veteran John Makdessi put in the best performance in years in defeating Chilean prospect Ignacio Bahamondes. Makdessi dropped Bahamondes in the first round, and a patient approach and accurate strikes helped him overcome the overwhelming size advantage he had in the matchup. Despite the loss, Bahamondes survived the early adversity and rallied to win the third round.  Both positives for a prospect, assuming he can get his weight in order.

Jarjis Danho def. Yorgan De Castro via knockout (3:02 Rd1)

In his return to the octagon after a five-year layoff, Germany’s Jarjis Danho scored a highlight-reel knockout over Yorgan De Castro. A huge overhand right to the temple shut De Castro’s lights off, only to be followed up by another devastating hammer fist.

Jack Shore def. Hunter Azure via split decision (30-27, 30-27, 28-29)

Welsh prospect Jack Shore secured an excellent decision victory over hardnosed Hunter Azure. Shore mixed in striking, but it was his excellent technical wrestling in the third round which secured the decision victory.

Luis Saldaña def. Jordan Griffin via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

In a good back and forth fight, UFC debutant Luis Saldaña used a diverse striking array to get the edge over the usual high-pressure approach from veteran Jordan Griffin.  Griffin threatened with multiple submissions in the second round, including a very deep rear-naked choke attempt, that Saldaña only escaped when he was saved by the bell. Fun entertaining scrap.

Da Un Jung def. William Knight via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-26, 30-26)

Korea’s Da Un Jung absolutely dominated William Knight with rinse and repeat wrestling sequences on his way to a crushing decision victory.  The second round was especially dominant featuring an extended ground and pound sequence while in back-mount, but throughout the entire fight, Jung utterly crushed Knight with wrestling technique. 

Impa Kasanganay def. Sasha Palatnikov via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) (0:26, R2)

Bouncing back from suffering the knockout of the year vs. Joaquin Buckley in late 2020, Impa Kasanganay scored an exciting submission victory over Sasha Palatnikov.  Kasanganay used a heavy pressure approach in round one, and found his way to a choke, which he secured without needing to get the hooks in.
