Play-by-Play

Nate Diaz vs. (#11) Tony Ferguson

Round One – Diaz opens with a 1-2 and Ferguson comes back with a right hook. Ferguson misses on a spinning back elbow then catches a Diaz front kick and tosses Diaz to the mat but the pride of Stockton, California gets right back up. Ferguson lands a low kick but Ferguson’s left shin immediately starts pouring blood, possibly from the checked leg kick by Diaz. Ferguson rips a right hook to the body then a side kick to the front of Diaz’s right knee. Ferguson clinches, Diaz shoves him aside and cracks Ferguson with a 1-2 then points and laughs at Ferguson, who smiles and touches gloves with Diaz. Ferguson with a low kick, Diaz with a kick to the mid-section, and Diaz pops the jab. Diaz lands a 1-2, then a straight right, Ferguson lands a kick up the middle but Diaz catches the leg and shoves ‘El Cucuy’ back. Ferguson lands a low kick, Diaz lands a stabbing front kick and a 1-2 at the buzzer and this one is headed to round number two.

Round Two – Diaz lands a low kick, Ferguson returns fire with one of his own then cracks Diaz with a 1-2. Diaz lands a left hook then a low kick and Ferguson lands an overhand left then a 1-2 of his own followed by an uppercut. Diaz with a side kick to the body but Ferguson catches the leg and shoves Diaz back. Ferguson with a low kick, then another and a right hook. Diaz fires off a three-piece combination and it opens up a cut underneath the right eye of Ferguson, who lands a front kick to Diaz’s body. Diaz shoves Ferguson back and Ferguson slips to the mat but pops right back to his feet. Ferguson lands an elbow but Diaz lands a 1-2 and a left hook stuns Ferguson. Diaz cracks Ferguson with an overhand left and Ferguson is busted open badly on that right eye. Ferguson with a low kick, then to the mid-section and whiffs on a wild right hook at the horn and this one is headed to the third round.

Round Three – Ferguson with a low kick, Diaz responds with a left hook and Ferguson cracks Diaz with yet another leg kick and Diaz is feeling the damage. Ferguson stands in the middle of the octagon and wants Diaz to come forward but Diaz walks over to his corner and tells Ferguson he’ll come forward at his own pace. Referee, Marc Goddard tells Diaz to engage, which he finally does. Ferguson keeps the leg kicks coming, Diaz blasts Ferguson with a 1-2 then a low kick of his own and starts laughing at Ferguson and walks away. Ferguson with another lead leg kick, Diaz lands a 1-2, then stuns Ferguson with a left hook but Ferguson continues to chop at the legs. Diaz lands a 1-2, Ferguson backs up to the fence, Diaz stops at the fence after Ferguson circles back to the center of the octagon and Diaz starts talking to someone on the outside of the cage and laughs. Diaz comes forward and wallops Ferguson with a left hook, then a 1-2, Ferguson partially lands a step-in elbow, Diaz with a kick to the body and cracks Ferguson with another 1-2 and laughs at Ferguson, who’s pouring blood from his eye and his shin, his entire left leg is fire engine red with a pool of blood piled onto the top of his left foot. Diaz pops the jab, then a 1-2, Ferguson rips a right hook to the body, Diaz lands a left hook then stands next to the fence and holds it as Ferguson lands yet another leg kick at the buzzer and this one is headed to the main event rounds.

Round Four – Diaz with a 1-2 to open. Ferguson lands a side kick to the body then fakes a double-leg as Diaz comes up the middle with a front kick to the body. Ferguson with a leg kick, then another and Diaz lands a straight left. Diaz wobbles Ferguson with a left hook, then a 1-2, Ferguson whiffs on an uppercut, Diaz peppers him with a right hook to the body then a 1-2 up top and Ferguson halts the momentum with an uppercut to the body. Diaz cracks Ferguson with a 1-2 and Ferguson dives in with a takedown and gets it but Diaz has the guillotine in and does his iconic flex and Ferguson taps! What a finish by Nate Diaz! Diaz and Ferguson embrace after the fight and hold each other’s arms up to a raucous ovation from the Las Vegas crowd. What a fight!

(#3) Khamzat Chimaev vs. Kevin Holland

Round One – Chimaev immediately dives in for a takedown and gets it. Holland scrambles and ends up back on his feet. Chimaev presses Holland against the fence and trips him back to the mat. Chimaev stands and unloads a few shots and gets side control. Holland keeps scrambling and uses the fence to get back up but Chimaev shoves him to the mat and locks in the D’Arce Choke. Holland rolls and slips out but Chimaev rolls with him and tightens the hold. Holland keeps spinning, Chimaev somehow keeps in locked in and spins to the side and Holland has no choice but to tap. What a performance by Khamzat Chimaev.

(#14) Li Jingliang vs. Daniel Rodriguez

Round One – Li lands a low kick, Rodriguez wallops Li with a left hand but Li comes back with a 1-2. Li lands a kick to the body, Rodriguez pops the jab then a straight right. Li rips a right hook to the body then just misses an overhand left. Rodriguez lands a kick to the body, Li catches the leg and spins Rodriguez, who whiffs on a spinning back fist. Li lands a 1-2, then a left hook, Rodriguez continues to pop the jab, then lands a straight right to the body. Rodriguez lands a front kick to the body, Li catches the leg once again and spins Rodriguez, who then goes for another backfist but Li lands a thunderous low kick that sits Rodriguez, who jumps right back to his feet. Rodriguez lands yet another jab, Li goes for a jumping switch kick but Rodriguez avoids and the horn sounds to end an eventful opening frame.

Round Two – Li lands a stabbing front kick to the body, Rodriguez continues to pepper Li with the jab but Li comes back with a right hook that finds a home. Li with a low kick, Rodriguez returns the favor, and Li lands another to boot. More jab work lands for Rodriguez, Li goes for a Superman punch but walks into a straight right from Rodriguez. Li cracks Rodriguez with a right hook and he stuns Rodriguez, who backs up, Li partially lands a high kick but Rodriguez returns fire with a straight right and lands a head kick but Li trips Rodriguez to the mat and lands a pair of shots from the top but the buzzer sounds to send this one to the third and final round.

Round Three – Li with an overhand left to start. Li lands a 1-2, Rodriguez pops the jab, Li with a low kick, then a fake Superman punch but lands another 1-2. Li lands a left hook then another low kick, then yet another kick to Rodriguez’s lead leg. Rodriguez continues with the jab, then another, and another. Li with a lead leg kick, Rodriguez with yet another jab, then a straight left and Li rips a straight left to the body. Rodriguez whiffs on a 1-2 and the horn sounds to send this one to the judge’s scorecards.

(#4) Irene Aldana vs. (#10) Macy Chiasson

Round One – Aldana opens with a leg kick, Chiasson follows suit. Chiasson misses a front kick, Aldana lands a low kick, Chiasson dives in for a takedown but Aldana backs up to the fence and Chiasson clinches. Aldana forces the break and Chiasson lands a left on the way out. Aldana lands a right hook, then a low kick and a jab. Chiasson whiffs on a head kick the dives in for the takedown but Aldana holds firm and lands a step-in knee to the body on the break. Aldana wobbles Chiasson with a right hook then lands a low kick. Aldana lands a left hook, Chiasson dives in for a takedown and this time, gets it. Aldana scrambles, looks for an armbar but uses it to end up on top and starts landing some heavy shots. Chiasson rolls, Aldana gets to side control and starts dropping hammerfist after hammerfist on Chiasson but the latter survives as the horn sounds to end the opening frame.

Round Two – Aldana lands a 1-2 to start. Chiasson fires back with a counter left and drags Aldana down to the mat with a takedown. Aldana rolls and ends up on top, Chiasson slides to the side and looks for the back as Aldana ends up in a seated position. Aldana lands some a back elbows that keeps Chiasson at bay but Chiasson keeps trying to roll Aldana to her back. Aldana uses a heel hook attempt to get to her feet, Chiasson trips Aldana back down and gets the back. Chiasson starts hammering Aldana with elbows, Aldana rolls, Chiasson has the body triangle in and goes back to the elbows to the side of the head. Aldana rolls backwards and Chiasson has the back once again. Aldana starts swinging her fists back and nails Chiasson, who rolls Aldana to her stomach and starts unloading more elbows. Aldana rolls to her back, Chiasson gets side control and continues to pour on the ground-and-pound. Aldana keeps scrambling, Chiasson holds her ground and the buzzer sounds to end round number two.

Round Three – Chiasson immediately dives for a takedown but Aldana shrugs her off. Aldana lands a right hook and Chiasson lands a low kick. Chiasson lands a perfectly timed double-leg and drags Aldana to the mat. Aldana scrambles, Chiasson stands, Aldana cracks Chiasson with an up kick to the ribs and Chiasson folds over, this one is over! What a finish by Irene Aldana!

(#12) Johnny Walker vs. Ion Cutelaba

Round One – Walker whiffs on a high kick, Cutelaba catches it and tosses Walker to the mat. Walker scrambles to the fence, Cutelaba lays a few shots in to the side of Walker’s head, Cutelaba trips Walker to the mat but Walker ends up on top. Cutelaba rolls, Walker takes the back, looks for the choke, Cutelaba fights the hands but Walker locks it in and Cutelaba’s forced to tap! What a performance by Johnny Walker!
