UFC 236’s Andre Soukhamthath Talks Montel Jackson & Says He’ll Never Shake Sean O’Malley Loss
Andre Soukhamthath is back in action at UFC 236, facing Montel Jackson in a bantamweight division encounter.
Most fans will remember Soukhamthath best for failing to put away an injured Sean O’Malley at UFC 222, which is something Soukhamthath knows will never be forgotten.
“Absolutely, it was good shutting a lot of people up. But at the end of the day, I kind of realized that I’m always gonna be remembered for that O’Malley fight and for taking the guy with one leg down. I’m always gonna be remembered for that, always gonna be remembered as a soccer mom and (for having the) lowest fight IQ,” says Soukhamthath in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Soukhamthath has gone onto fight once more since that bout, while O’Malley has yet to return to the Octagon.
Every fighter holds their training camps in different ways and Soukhamthath mirrors his training camp more like a “Rocky” style version of one.
“My family is down in Florida, so its just like…I come out here and I train. I try to make it like Rocky and I train old school, I do stay with my dad and with my brothers and sisters and stuff. I have family and friends up here, sometimes I do have to fix some things when I come home. But overall, that first week is always rough being here. But once I got the swing or things and once I settle in, it gets a little easier as camp goes on,” says Soukhamthath.
UFC 236 takes place on Saturday, April 13 from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia with Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
