Boxing star Tyson Fury has previously hinted about transitioning to professional MMA in the future.
It doesn’t appear now that Fury wants an MMA fight, but he would like to face a UFC champion under a specific set of rules.
“I don’t want to go into an MMA fight, like rolling around on the floor and all that,” Fury told ESPN Radio (via Nolan King of MMA Junkie). “I would fight one of their champions in small gloves. Maybe in a cage, but with boxing rules … with UFC gloves. With the four-ounce gloves, that would be good for me.”
Fury first has to focus on an upcoming rematch with Deontay Wilder, which is scheduled for Saturday, February 22.
There may be some who are concerned about Fury transitioning to other sports, but Fury says all he is doing is trying different things.
“You don’t want to be unsuccessful at what you do to want to have a go at something else, do you?” said Fury. “You don’t have to be on a losing streak or something to want to venture into something else. I’m one of those type of person – adventurous and willing to try other things. I’m doing very well. I’m making a lot of money out of boxing. I’m at the top of my game, but I’d still love to go in the cage and have a fight with somebody with little gloves on. Let’s see what it’s like to get punched in the face with the four ouncers on rather than 10.”
