Tyron Woodley Working With Jorge Masvidal: “He Wants To See Me Back On Top”

Tyron Woodley is putting in work with Jorge Masvidal.

Former UFC welterweight champion Woodley and former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington will meet later this month in the main event of UFC Vegas 11.

Woodley, who is riding a two-fight losing streak, is working with BMF champion Masvidal. Woodley says Masvidal wants to see him back on top.

“So when he reached out, I said, ‘Hell yeah, let’s get him in,’” Woodley said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show (via Cole Shelton of BJPenn.com). “He’s holding me accountable – ‘Can’t do that; tonight we’re doing this, how much you weigh?’ We’ve had a long career because of our IQ and because we put ourselves in uncomfortable situations in training so that we can thrive in the Octagon. And I want to see him do well. I want to see him continue to make the money, do what he wants to do. And he wants to see me back on top.”

The former champion hasn’t won a fight in almost two years, with that last victory coming over Darren Till at UFC 228. Masvidal actually contacted Woodley a year ago and Masvidal has helped Woodley fix up certain aspects of his life.

“He hit me up personally about a year and a half ago and told me there were some toxic things in my life that I needed to erase, and I’ve erased those things,” Woodley said. “Now I can breathe, now I can float. Now I’m back, and it feels good, and I have to thank him for that.”

UFC Vegas 11 is set for Saturday, September 19 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada with Colby Covington and Tyron Woodley headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
