Tyron Woodley To Train With Tri-Star Going Forward

Former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley hasn’t competed since losing the gold to Kamaru Usman at UFC 235

The former champion is making a major career change as he is going to be training at Tri-Star gym going forward.

“It was a phenomenal session,” Woodley said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show (via Farah Hannoun of MMA Junkie). “It was a blessing to be able to do that. It was a blessing to be able to train with Georges St. Pierre. Yes, people, I’ll be training with Georges St. Pierre. We will not fight – it’s very obvious. There’s no point for me not to train with one of the greatest, if not the greatest welterweight of all time and sharpen myself. That’s something that’s motivating me. I can’t really act like the Kamaru Usman fight was motivating me. I can’t act like the Colby (Covington) fight was motivating me beyond the fact that I just wanted to smash his face in. But this motivates me. It makes me excited. I’m eager to train, I’m eager to learn and I’m excited about it.”

Woodley had a brief opportunity to train with Firas Zahabi and company before UFC Fight Night Newark, which is what lead to the move to Tri-Star.

While Woodley is now going to be doing some training at Tri-Sport, don’t expect to see the fighter abandon his last training team at Roufusport.

“I’ve got a great camp,” Woodley said. “And the good thing about my camp is, the reason we move the way we do is that humility. I talked to Duke Roufus. He knew I was training with him. Din (Thomas) knew I was training with him. They were excited to see what I learned, what I picked up.”

There is no word yet on when Woodley is expected to return to action, with the former champion currently ranked at #1 in the UFC Welterweight Division.
