Boxing legends Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. are set to collide in an exhibition fight on September 12, and Tyron Woodley favors the former.
Woodley has studied both boxers through their respective careers and he believes that Tyson will walk away victorious.
“I’ve studied them so much,” the former UFC welterweight champion said on Real Quick w/Mike Swick (via Abhinav Kini of The Body Lock). “I’ve watched so many films, so many fights with both of them. I think if Mike Tyson touches anybody, they’re going down no matter how old he is. I just don’t see him not touching Roy at some point in the fight.”
Jones Jr. does have the edge in career knockouts when compared to Tyson, but Jones Jr. also had 17 more professional boxing fights. Woodley, who sports seven knockouts in his professional MMA career, would not take a punch from the “Iron” Mike.
“I don’t want to take one,” Woodley said. “No college prank on Earth is worth dying. It’s a punch that the most terrible pedophile criminals on Earth should have to stay there and let Mike Tyson punch them one time. If they go, they go — that’s how serious his punch is. I agree with you for the exact same reason — the life-changing power that Tyson has. He [Jones] could try and gas out Tyson but I don’t see him being in that much better shape either, you know?”
Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. is set for Saturday, September 12 from the Dignity Health Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California. The two legends will serve as headliners.
