Tom Lawlor Seemingly Retires From MMA

‘Filthy’ Tom Lawlor’s MMA career has seemingly come to an end.

At PFL 5, Lawlor defeated Jordan Young via unanimous decision, but after picking his first win since knocking out Gian Villante in July 2015, the 38-year-old laid his gloves down in the middle of the cage.

Lawlor teased that he may be calling it quits while speaking with Sherdog ahead of the fight. Here is what he said:

“This is like the last fight on my contract with the PFL. This is my opportunity to make it to the playoffs. If that doesn’t happen, this may be the end of it for me. I’m 38-years old, I’ve been fighting since I was 20. I just want to say thanks to everybody out there. I mean, if this is the end of it for me, thanks to anybody who supported me, anybody who watched my fights and thought I was cool, or thought my entrances were funny. Thank you!”

Turning pro in 2007, Lawlor came to prominence on Season 8 of The Ultimate Fighter, where he defeated Kyle Kingsbury on the finale. He last fought for UFC in 2016. Just two months ago, he joined the Professional Fighters League, losing his debut bout to Antônio Carlos Júnior at PFL 2. If this is indeed the end for Lawlor inside the octagon, his all-time record will stand at 11 wins, 8 loses, and 1 no contest.

Lawlor currently works for MLW and New Japan Pro Wrestling. He recently won the New Japan Cup USA and became the first-ever NJPW Strong Openweight Champion.
