Tito Ortiz Says Jon Jones Will Never Be GOAT After All His Issues
Before Jon Jones went on his remarkable run as the UFC light heavyweight champion, Tito Ortiz reigned supreme nearly a decade earlier in the UFC's 205-pound division.
Ortiz had the longest run as light heavyweight champ, making five consecutive title defenses. Jones surpassed it, making eight consecutive defenses before getting stripped of the belt in April of 2015 after he was involved in a hit-and-run accident involving a pregnant woman.
His latest misstep was being pulled days before his UFC 200 main event light heavyweight title unification bout against Daniel Cormier for being flagged by USADA for Hydroxy-Clomiphene, an anti-estrogenic agent, as well Letrozole, an aromatase inhibitor.
Looking at Jones' resume and who he's beaten along the way would put him right there among the greatest fighters of all-time, perhaps the best ever. But fans and fighters alike feel his indiscretions ruin what he's done inside the octagon.
"How stupid is this man? I just can't perceive it, I don't even understand it,” Ortiz said of Jones’ failed drug test to Daily Star Sport. "Through my long career of 19 years, I've never put the idea of using any type PEDS or anything like that. I've always been against it. When I fought against Forest Griffin, he had the exemption to use testosterone. And when I found out two days before the fight, I was like, 'what the f**k are you guys doing here man?' Jon 'Bones' Jones, he had an opportunity to be one of the greatest ever and he'll never be able to do that again – ever."
The interim light heavyweight champion Jones will appear before the Nevada Athletic Commission on Oct. 10 on the alleged PED matter.
