Tito Ortiz Gets Win Back, TDLR Issues Statement

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz scored a first round submission win over former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio in the main event of Combate Americas: Tito vs. Alberto.

However, it appeared for a short time that Ortiz’s win over Del Rio would be overturned to a no contest by the Texas Department Of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR). It had previously been reported that Ortiz failed a drug test in-line with the event, but a statement from the TDLR states that they confirmed with a physician that Ortiz was taking a legal substance.

The following statement was issued by the TDLR to MMA Junkie:

“A urine sample provided by Jacob ‘Tito’ Christopher Ortiz on Dec. 7, 2019, at the Combate Americas MMA event showed a potentially disqualifying substance that Ortiz claimed was prescribed by a physician. Pending the outcome of the TDLR inquiry into whether the substance was indeed prescribed by a physician, TDLR marked the fight results as ‘No Contest.’ TDLR confirmed with the physician that the item was prescribed to Ortiz. TDLR has reinstated Ortiz’s victory in the Dec. 7 bout.”

There is no word yet as to when Ortiz is going to be fighting again, but the fighter is currently riding a three fight winning streak.
