Tae Hyun Bang Sentenced To 10 Month Prison Term For Fight Fixing Accusations

Former UFC fighter Tae Hyun bang is serving a 10 month sentence in a South Korea prison for his role in a plan to fix a fight at UFC Fight Night 79.

The fighter was found guilty for accepting bribes in connection to throw the aforementioned fight against Leo Kuntz.

It was The Korea Herald that first broke the news.

Three other brokers who were also involved in the fight fixing were also sentence to prison terms, it is unknown just how long they will serve.

An official of the Seoul Central District Court said that Bang’s actions hurt the credibility of MMA and his own country’s credibility.

“The crime of match fixing damages the credibility of sport, and in international matches, it has a bad effect on the country’s credibility as well,” the court official said. “Bang had an obligation to play the game fairly, but he ignored it and took an important role in the scheme. But we did take into consideration that Bang won the bout and returned the money afterwards.”

Kuntz, who Bang was fighting at UFC Fight Night 79, has stated all along that he had nothing to do with the fight fixing.

Despite not competing for the UFC since UFC Fight Night 93 in September of 2016, the jailed Bang is still listed as a member of the roster.
