Stipe Miocic Provides Updates On His Future: “I Just Want To Get My Belt Back”
Former UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic provided an update on what could be next for him and his upcoming negotiations with the promotion.
Miocic spoke with MMA Junkie’s Nolan King saying that while his immediate focus is on his wife giving birth to their second child soon, he plans to meet with UFC President Dana White shortly thereafter next month to figure out his fighting future.
“We’re going to have a sit down here in September with Dana,” Miocic said. “We’ll figure it out from there. …We’ll hopefully figure that out in the next month. We’ll get there. Dana has been texting me and everything is in negotiations.”
The Euclid, Ohio native also spoke with MMA Fighting’s Shaun Al-Shatti and made it clear he just wants to ultimately get his heavyweight title back in his next bout, hopefully in a trilogy matchup with current champion Francis Ngannou. Miocic dropped the rematch bout to Ngannou back at UFC 260 in his most recent Octagon appearance, losing via a second-round knockout.
“Honestly, getting the title back,” Miocic said. “But definitely [I want] to get that fight with Francis. Hopefully, he keeps it and hopefully we fight again and I get back what’s mine. I just want to get my belt back. That’s all I’ve really thought about. I haven’t really worried about retirement. I’m having fun, and as long as my body feels good and I’m having fun, we’ll keep going.”
