Stipe Miocic Knew He’d Beat Daniel Cormier In The Fourth Round

Stipe Miocic became a two time UFC Heavyweight Champion at UFC 241, defeating Daniel Cormier by fourth round knockout to reclaim the gold

While the newly crowned champion admits that he fought like crap in the first few rounds of the bout, one thing Miocic knew is that the finish would come in the fourth round.

“I was fighting like a b—h,” Miocic said after the event (via Mike Bohn & John Morgan of MMA Junkie). “I really was. I don’t take nothing from ‘DC.’ He’s tough. He’s fought the best in the world and he’s beat the best in the world. It took me a little time to get my mojo, and I just wasn’t feeling it. When I walked out for that fourth round, I knew it was going to be over. I could just see his face, the way he was sweating, the way his hips were moving. I knew it was going to be over.”

All three judges scorecards had Cormier winning the bout heading into the fourth round, but those scorecards became ineffective once Miocic finished DC.

Miocic also did a little post-fight celebration dance in the Octagon after the win, which is a move the newly crowned champion calls dumb.

“It was a little from ‘Old School’ – we watched it today and I was just like ‘Frank the Tank,’” Miocic said. “I had no idea what I was doing. I don’t know why I did it. I feel really dumb that I did it, and I did like the ‘Suck It.’ I don’t know why. I had to do something with my hands and feet. I’m an idiot. I don’t know. I’m just dumb.”

There is no word yet on what’s next for Miocic, who holds victories over three of the top five fighters in the UFC Heavyweight Division rankings.
