Stephen Thompson Informs The UFC That He Will Not Accept An Offer To Fight Shavkat Rakhmonov | Social Media Roundup
An exciting welterweight bout was rumoured to be taking place later this year between Stephen Thompson and Shavkat Rakhmonov. However that will not be happening now as Thompson has declined the offer to fight Rakhmonov — this and much more in Thursday’s social media roundup.
Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson informs the UFC that he will not be taking a fight against Shavkat Rakhmonov
Rumors circulated earlier this week of a potential UFC welterweight bout which could take place later this year between UFC veteran Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson and one of the UFC’s biggest prospects Shavkat Rakhmonov.
When rumors were going around about this fight being close to completion, MMA fans seemed to have split opinions on the bout. Some fans thought that it was a great test and a solid next step for Rakhmonov and some fans thought that is was harsh to throw Thompson in there against a fighter as dominant and hungry as Rakhmonov.
Thompson is a fighter who has never shied away from tough fights but as he seems to be edging towards the end of his career, you would’ve thought that the UFC would give him some kinder bouts even though he still has a good ranking in the UFC’s most stacked division.
It was revealed today that Thompson will in fact be declining the offer to fight Rakhmonov. In an interview with Cole Shelton, ‘Wonderboy’ revealed the reasons as to why he is not willing to fight Rakhmonov at this time.
I caught up with Stephen Thompson (@WonderboyMMA) today who made it clear he’s not interested in fighting Shavkat Rakhmonov next and explained why that is the case. He also has told the #UFC he won’t be taking the fight. https://t.co/u7ou7JRJSr
