A little over a week ago, the legendary Floyd Mayweather earned a tenth round TKO victory over UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor in “The Money Fight.”
While there has been some speculation as to just how many pay-per-views were purchased for the super fight, a Showtime Executive in Stephen Espinoza says that the trends indicate that the pay-per-view record could be broken.
“We would love to break that record, but even if we come up just short, the event was still a massive success financially and by other measurements,” Espinoza said to USA Today.
UFC President Dana White stated that he believed that a total of 6.5 million pay-per-views were purchased.
The actual pay-per-view numbers are expected to be released shortly, but there isn’t an exact date at the moment as to when those numbers are coming out.
Reports recently surfaced as well that The Money Fight was reportedly illegally watched live or illegally downloaded around three million times.
Despite the apparent success of The Money Fight, there is going to be no rematch between McGregor and Mayweather — at least as of now. That’s because Mayweather announced his retirement fight during a post-fight interview on the pay-per-view, while McGregor’s next fight is expected to be taking place in the UFC.
