Scott Coker Says Rory MacDonald’s Contract Hasn’t Expired
Former Bellator MMA Welterweight Champion Rory MacDonald last competed in the main event of Bellator 232, dropping the title via unanimous decision to Douglas Lima, with that bout also serving as the finals for the Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix.
A defeated MacDonald said his Bellator contract expired after the bout, but Bellator President Scott Coker says that the contract is still active.
”Rory’s contract has not expired, and we have remaining rights,” Coker told MMA Fighting.
MacDonald has competed a total of six times under the Bellator MMA banner, earning a record of 3-2-1 along the way.
Despite some woes during his time in Bellator MMA, one thing Coker would like to do is to keep MacDonald around.
”I think he’s a great fighter,” he said. “I think he’s probably the No. 2 welterweight in our roster, so yeah, we would love to. But we’ll see.”
The specifics of MacDonald’s contract haven’t been made public at this time, but Bellator may have exclusive negotiating rights with the fighter for a set amount of time before he officially does become a free agent.
