Rose Namajunas May Be Pondering Retirement After UFC 237
A defeated Namajunas looks like she may be pondering retirement after dropping the title to Andrade.
“I just want to do something else with my life right now,” Namajunas said after the event (via Mike Bohn & Ken Hathaway of MMA Junkie). “I don’t know. We’ll see. I’m not going to make any decisions right now. I don’t know. It’s just hard to keep having fun with this.”
In a post-fight interview inside of the Octagon with Jon Anik, a beaten Namajunas said that she was relieved of the pressure of being the women’s strawweight champion.
Namajunas does state that she was beating Andrade prior to being knocked out, hinting at a possible rematch in the future.
“I was definitely whipping her butt, there’s no doubt about that,” Namajunas said. “We’ll see if I’m still interested in this. I know I can beat her. I just don’t know.”
If Namajunas does decide to hang up the gloves, it would end a professional MMA career that began in January of 2013. Namajunas became the UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion at UFC 217, defeating Joanna Jedrzejczyk by first round TKO.
