Rory MacDonald Wants 3 Belts In Bellator MMA
UFC veteran Rory MacDonald is challenging for the promotion’s welterweight title this January when he faces Douglas Lima.
While the welterweight title is a nice prize for the Canadian fighter, a total of three belts is what he wants when it is all said and done.
“I’d go for three,” MacDonald said to MMA Fighting. “I’d fight [Ryan] Bader. I think they’re (Bellator MMA executives) not getting too far ahead of themselves. But I’ve brought it up to them. They know my intentions and stuff. We’ll see when I get there. I’ve got a big fight here with this guy. I’ll take care of that first and go from there. But in my mind’s eye, I see that.”
Ryan Bader is the current Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Champion, the middleweight title is the other championship MacDonald would go for. No matter what weight classes MacDonald wins gold at, the fighter says the welterweight division would be his primary home going forward.
“That’s gonna be my home,” MacDonald said. “That’s where I fit. I’m not a massive guy. I’d be a small middleweight, it would be a joke to see me at light heavyweight, but I still think I beat them.”
Bellator MMA: Lima vs. MacDonald takes place on Saturday, January 20 from The Forum in Los Angeles, California with Douglas Lima and Rory MacDonald headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Spike TV.
