Ronda Rousey Says Conor McGregor Has Earned Retirement
Former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor recently rocked the MMA world by announcing his retirement from professional MMA competition.
WWE Raw Women’s Champion and former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey says that the Irish megastar has earned the right to retire.
“Well, it’s a creative way to retire, and it was a cryptic way to retire,” Rousey said on ESPN’s SportsCenter (via Simon Samano of MMA Junkie). “So, we’ll see how permanent it is. If he wants to retire forever, he’s more than earned it. And like I said, I’m ready to buy that second round.”
Rousey hasn’t competed in MMA since losing to two division UFC champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 207, but has yet to formally announce her retirement.
It was recently revealed by the New York Times that an unnamed woman had made sexual assault accusations against McGregor, with that news coming out a short time after McGregor had announced his retirement. The former two division champion is also in the midst of serving a suspension for his role in the UFC 229 post-fight brawl, which ends next month. McGregor is also due back in a Florida court next month for arraignment after allegedly smashing a cell phone earlier this month.
