Robert Whittaker Not Afraid To Hurt Himself At UFC On Fox 24

TUF champion Robert Whittaker will be facing the toughest challenge of his pro MMA career at UFC On Fox 24, where he faces former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Ronaldo Souza.

In order to get the victory on Saturday Night, the fighter isn’t afraid to get hurt in the Octagon.

“It’s just the nature of the beast,” said Whittaker to Bloody Elbow. “You do a sport where you throw your hands at people’s skulls – you’re asking for damage. I’ve had this hand my whole life. I’m not afraid to throw it. I’m not afraid to break it. The place to do it is there, in the Octagon.”

Injuries aside, the TUF champion knows that Jacare is one of the greatest Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners in the sport right now.

With that being said, do not expect Whittaker to test his grappling skills against Jacare.

“I do like jiu-jitsu and I train it a lot in the gym. Is fighting Souza the time to test it? Probably not,” said Whittaker. “So it’s no secret that I want to keep this fight on the feet and he’ll want to take it to the ground.”

UFC On Fox 24 takes place on Saturday, April 15 from the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri with Demetrious Johnson and Wilson Reis headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event.
