Riot Breaks Out At MMA Event
Fans who attended a March 4 MMA event in London, England were treated to fights in the ring and fights in the crowd as well.
According to a report filed by the Liverpool Echo, an individual entered the ring during the fight and that person struck one of the fighters.
Moments after the incident occurs, more people enter the ring to fight and people start fighting outside of the ring as well.
A source told the Echo that the fight may have started due to illegal elbow strikes being used by one fighter on the other and that prompted the fan to get involved.
Merseyside Police are investigating the incident, which saw 2 people transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The owner of the Black-E, which hosted the event, issued the following statement to the Echo:
“The Black-E is a community arts project with a commitment to deliver creative and cultural opportunities predominately to young people and communities,” said the Black-E owners to the Echo. “In order to sustain this work we hire our main space out to boxing promoters from time to time.”
Echo sources also state that the owners of the Black-E will be reviewing their policy when it comes to allowing combat sports events in the venue.
