Report: Velasquez/Werdum II Happening At UFC 207
A potentially huge heavyweight division rematch is reportedly taking place this winter.
The December UFC 207 show looks to have a huge shot in the arrm, when former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez looks for revenge against the man who took the title from him, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum.
Velasquez, a former two time UFC Heavyweight Champion, defeated Junior Dos Santos and Brock Lesnar respectively for the championship. Werdum actually defeated Velasquez in their first meeting at UFC 188 to win the UFC Heavyweight Title, Werdum was the UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion when they met the first time in Mexico City.
They were originally set to meet a second time for the gold at UFC 196 this past February, but Velasquez pulled out due to an injury. Werdum would pull out as well with injuries of his own. Werdum would then go on to lose the championship to Stipe Miocic at UFC 198, Werdum lost via first round knockout.
Velasquez has won his lone fight since coming back from injury, which was a first round TKO finish of Travis Browne at UFC 200. Werdum is also coming off of a second win over Browne himself, this one came via decision at UFC 203 in Cleveland.
The bout was first rumored on UFC Tonight, which airs on Fox Sports 1, the upcoming tweet was also issued by the show.
Cain Velasquez says he doesn’t want to wait to fight if Miocic takes a break, he wants to fight Werdum in December. “This one’s personal.”
