Report: Valentina Shevchenko vs. Joanne Calderwood Off UFC 251, Shevchenko Injured

Valentina Shevchenko is scheduled to defend the UFC Women’s Flyweight Title against Joanne Calderwood at UFC 251, but that no longer appears to be the case.

Marc Raimondi of ESPN is reporting that Shevchenko has suffered a leg injury and the title bout has been pulled from the card. Shevchenko actually suffered the unspecified leg injury when successfully defending the title against Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 247.

There is no word at this time as to the exact nature of Shevchenko’s injury or how long the fighter is going to be out of action for.

Calderwood, in an interview yesterday with MMA Fighting, did state that she was told the title bout would be pushed back, but didn’t specify when it could take place. UFC 251 now doesn’t have a main event, co-main event or any title bout booked at this time and the event is scheduled to go down in just about two months.

UFC 251 takes place on Saturday, June 6 from the Perth Arena in Perth, Australia with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
