Report: UFC Fight Night: Woodley vs. Burns May Not Be Sanctioned If The Event Runs In Nevada

Former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley and Gilbert Burns are reportedly headlining UFC Fight Night: Woodley vs. Burns on May 23.

Recently, UFC President Dana White stated that the plan was to hold the May 23 card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. There could be an issue with that plan because a report from MMA Fighting states that the show may not be sanctioned if the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) decides not to regulate the card.

The NAC has been closed due to the coronavirus pandemic and there are no meetings scheduled for this month according to MMA Fighting.

NAC Executive Director Bob Bennet said that the NAC would not resume duties until the data on the coronavirus pandemic shows that the virus is slowing down. There is no specific timeline at this moment as to when the athletic commission is going to be reopening.

Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak plans on reopening the state via a phased approach, with the coronavirus pandemic rise or fall determining the speed of that reopening. Sisolak says that reopening is currently in phase one, which states that sporting and concert venues will remain closed at this time.
