Report: UFC Cuts Amir Aliakbari

Amir Aliakbari signed with the UFC in May of this year, but the fighter never got the chance to compete in the Octagon.

That’s because a report from Aaron Bronsteter of TSN is reporting that the promotion has released Aliakbari from his contract. Bronsteter reports that Aliakbari came into the UFC while being sanctioned before that contract was signed, but that sanction didn’t come from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). There was also a contract dispute between Aliakbari and the ACA promotion when he signed with the UFC, it is unknown if that dispute has been resolved at this time.

Aliakbari holds a 10-1-0 record as a professional MMA fighter, with notable wins coming over Heath Herring, Valentin Moldavsky, Geronimo Dos Santos and Daniel Omielanczuk. Aliakbari’s lone professional MMA defeat came to Mirko Cro Cop in the finals of the Rizin Openweight World Grand Prix in December of 2016.

There has been no comment from the UFC and/or Aliakbari as to the fighter’s status with the promotion or what that actual sanction is.
