Report: Thiago Santos Tests Positive For COVID-19, Off UFC Fight Island 4
Thiago Santos has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been pulled from UFC Fight Island 4, where he was scheduled to fight Glover Teixeira.
Combate first reported the news.
This fight was originally set to happen at UFC Vegas 10, but Teixeira tested positive for COVID-19 at that time and that bout was moved to UFC Fight Island 4. There is no word yet if Teixeira will remain on the UFC Fight Island 4 card or if the bout will get rescheduled again.
Teixeira (31-7-0) enters the contest riding a four-fight winning streak with those wins coming over Karl Roberson, Ion Cutelaba, Nikita Krylov and Anthony Smith. Teixeira has previously challenged for the UFC Light Heavyweight Title, losing to Jon Jones by decision at UFC 172. Teixeira hasn’t suffered a defeat in over four years, with that last loss coming to Corey Anderson at UFC Fight Night Hamburg.
UFC Fight Island 4 is set for Saturday, October 3 from Fight Island in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi with Holly Holm and Irene Aldana headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be announced.
