Report: Steve Garcia Steps In At UFC Fight Night Norfolk
Luis Pena needed a new opponent for UFC Fight Night Norfolk after the withdrawal of Alex Munoz and now he has one because Steve Garcia has reportedly accepted the short notice opportunity.
MMA Junkie first reported the news and the bout is still going to be a part of the preliminary card.
Pena (7-2-0) has won three of five under the UFC banner, with those wins coming over Richie Smullen, Steven Peterson and Matt Wiman. Pena has competed five times in the UFC thus far and four of them have gone into the third round. Pena also competed on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 27, but was pulled from a semi-final round bout due to injury.
Garcia (11-3-0) is going to be making his UFC debut in this bout and does so on the strength of a four fight winning streak. Garcia also competed on Dana White’s Contender Series Season 3, Episode 9, defeating Andrew Whitney by first round TKO. Garcia has picked up eleven wins as a professional MMA fighter and eight of them came by way of KO/TKO.
UFC Fight Night Norfolk takes place on Saturday, February 29 from the Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Virginia with Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
