Report: Sage Northcutt May Become A Free Agent
Rising prospect Sage Northcutt has spent the last two-plus years competing under the UFC banner, earning a 6-2-0 record in the organization (11-2-0 overall).
However, according to a report from Ariel Helwani of ESPN, not only has Northcutt fulfilled all the fights on his UFC contract, but the competitor is soon to be a free agent.
Former WEC Bantamweight Champion Urijah Faber trains Northcutt at Team Alpha Male and he hopes the UFC signs the rising star.
“[Last week’s Zak Ottow fight] was his last fight,” Faber said to ESPN, “and I really hope they re-sign him. He is the perfect ambassador for the sport.”
The UFC does have an exclusive 90 day negotiation period to re-sign the fighter, but once that time in up, it would allow Northcutt to sign with whatever promotion that makes offers.
Northcutt was last seen in action at UFC Fight Night Boise, picking up a second round TKO victory over Zak Ottow. Northcutt is currently riding a three fight winning streak, with those other wins coming over the duo of Thibault Gouti and Michel Quinones.
Dana White discovered the fighter during an episode of Dana White’s Lookin’ For A Fight and Northcutt has been with the UFC ever since, making his promotional debut at UFC 192 in October of 2015.
