Report: Roxanne Modafferi vs. Jennifer Maia 2 Set for UFC San Antonio
With Liz Carmouche suddenly taking a different direction, Roxanne Modafferi will now reportedly rematch Jennifer Maia at UFC Fight Night San Antonio.
After losing her opponent in quite unique fashion, Roxanne Modafferi will now face a familiar face at UFC San Antonio.
Originally set to fight Liz Carmouche, Modafferi (23-15) was suddenly in need of a new opponent, as Carmouche got the opportunity to challenge for the UFC Women’s Flyweight Title instead. Carmouche will fight Valentina Shevchenko on August 10th but Modafferi remains on the July 20th card, taking on Jennifer Maia according to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani.
Roxanne Modafferi has a new opponent for the July 20 card in San Antonio, sources say. She’ll meet Jennifer Maia in a rematch of a fight won by Maia via split decision in 2018.

Modafferi has fought Maia before, losing via split decision in September 2016. Since then, ‘The Happy Warrior’ has returned to the UFC, going 4-2 overall with 2 of those wins coming inside the octagon. Most recently, Modafferi outpointed Antonina Shevchenko. She’s currently ranked 5th in the UFC’s Women’s Flyweight standings and will look to maintain that spot by avenging a prior defeat here.
Maia (16-5-1) has also landed in the UFC since her Invicta win over Modafferi, fighting just three times since then but winning two of those bouts. The Brazilian is 1-1 since joining the UFC and recently scored her first victory in the promotion, outpointing Alexis Davis. As a result, she’s positioned at #8 in the division’s UFC rankings.
