Report: Rose Namajunas Defending Women’s Strawweight Title Against Tecia Torres At UFC 221
A second title fight could be making its way to the UFC 221 card as Rose Namajunas may defend the UFC Women’s Strawweight Title against Tecia Torres.
Bartek Stachura from Low King first reported the potential title bout.
Namajunas (7-3-0) would be making the first defense of the championship, as she defeated Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 217 to win the gold. Namajunas also won the second fight she had against Torres and that came by decision at UFC On Fox 19. Namajunas also enters the fight on the strength of a two bout winning streak and she hasn’t suffered a loss in well over a year.
Torres (10-1-0) would enter the bout on a three fight winning streak, defeating Bec Rawlings, Juliana Lima and Michelle Waterson. Torres won the first encounter she had with Namajunas back at Invicta FC 6 and that win came by way of decision. Torres has seen all but on of her fights go the distance and that lone bout that didn’t was a submission win over Juliana Lima at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 25 Finale.
Torres told Fightful immediately following UFC 218 that she wanted a win, and ended up scoring it.
UFC 221 takes place on Saturday, February 10 from the Perth Arena in Perth, Australia with Robert Whittaker and Luke Rockhold headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
