Report: Michael Chandler vs. Ben Henderson II Rebooked For Bellator 242
A lightweight division rematch has been added to Bellator 242 as Michael Chandler again faces Ben Henderson.
Combate first reported the bout, as the bout was originally set to headline Bellator 244 before it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Chandler (20-5-0) won the first encounter between himself and Henderson, which came via split decision at Bellator 165 in November of 2016. Chandler is a multi-time Bellator MMA Lightweight Champion, defeating Eddie Alvarez, Brent Primus and Patricky Pitbull to start those reigns. Chandler has competed a total of twenty five times as a professional MMA fighter and seven of those bouts went the distance.
Henderson (28-8-0) enters the rematch riding a four fight winning streak, defeating Roger Huerta, Saad Awad, Adam Piccolotti and Myles Jury. Henderson hasn’t been defeated in over two years, with that last loss coming to the aforementioned Pitbull at Bellator 183 in September of 2017. Henderson is a former UFC Lightweight Champion, defeating Frankie Edgar by unanimous decision at UFC 144 to claim the gold.
Bellator 242 takes place on Friday, August 7 from a location to be announced and with a main event to be announced. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be announced.
